Noble in the face of oppression and suffering, spiritually strong, beautiful, righteous , but also hip and funny...their time is long due. The time has come: America, repent.

I think that the hitherto unacknowledged, subliminal notion that African-Americans are "the chosen people" among many liberals must be linked to a belief that
salvation for America's historical sins lies in atonement by white people and the handing over of cultural, political, and economic power to people of color, with African-Americans dominant--a curious stance since many if not most liberals are identify with secularism instead of religious fundamentalism or avowed religiosity.
As a person of color, observer who is neither black nor white, and a liberal who has a certain fondness for African-American culture but certainly not all aspects of it, I think that the ingratiating, generous behavior of so many whites towards blacks and their own racial self-deprecation bordering on self-debasement can be explained in these terms.
I am not a social psychologist but still...I wonder...if such attitudes really in the long run help African-Americans instead of simply reinforcing a sense of resentment and entitlement.
